As ‘Power Rangers’ remains to be one of the most widely known superhero TV series since its debut in the early 1990’s, a film reboot is on its way and filming carries on in Vancouver.
Fans have already gotten a glimpse of several teasers of what can be expected from the movie comeback that will be centered once more on a group of high school kids with superpowers.
The upcoming film will not feature any of the original cast members. Nonetheless, it is likely to be incorporated with Marvel-like elements while the Rangers, known for their traditional spandex costumes, could sport upgraded outfits and ultramodern Zords.
Images of the Rangers' power suits were recently shown to the public and a number of fans have already expressed disapproval towards the outfits, saying these are “too cheesy” for a reboot that aims to make things more lifelike and real this time.
“It's tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that's not man-made,” production designer Andrew Menzies said during an interview. "You can't win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans."
A preview of the Rangers in the latest Power Rangers poster reveals that the superheroes will become futuristic versions of the dinosaur-inspired humanoids in the original series. Such Zords come together and build their ultimate weapon- the Megazord.
Dean Israelite, whose first film had been the sci-fi adventure ‘Project Almanac,’ has been set to helm the movie. Cast members include Dacre Montgomery as group leader and Red Ranger, Jason; Ludi Lin as Black Ranger; Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger, Becky Gomez as Yellow Ranger and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger.
They will be joined by award-winning actor and ‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston as their mentor, Zordon. Elizabeth Banks has also signed on to the movie, playing ambitious villain Rita Repulsa, whose sole mission is to conquer the Earth.
The film will be written off a script written by Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class), Zack Stentz (Thor), John Gatins (Real Steel), Matt Sazama (Gods of Egypt) and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold).
The upcoming ‘Power Rangers’ movie will not be the first film adaptation of the superhero series. ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie’ and the ‘Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie’ were released as big-screen adaptations in 1995 and 1997, respectively.
As noted by CinemaBlend, the new ‘Power Rangers’ reboot offers a retelling of the group’s adventures within a modern-day setting.
The ‘Power Rangers' premiere has been set on Mar. 24, 2017, according to Saban Entertainment and Lionsgate.
