With one of the most highly anticipated events in the mobile tech industry getting closer, a lot of new details about the Samsung Galaxy S7 are starting to come out. As a device poised to be the South Korean tech giant's next flagship handset, users can expect the device to come with better specs.
Earlier last month, renowned leaker Evan Blass revealed through a post on Venture Beat some of the features of the device. According to his write-up, the upcoming device will feature a 5.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. This is exactly the same size as the display on the Galaxy S6 and its Edge variant.
For the new device, however, its Edge counterpart will come with a larger display set at 5.5 inches. In addition, both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will come with a new display feature that will allow users to keep the screen turned on and to monitor the device's downloaded content. Of course, with an always-on display, users can expect a shorter battery life, which according to Blass will consume one percent of the battery every hour.
Although the battery pack of the Galaxy S7 will still be non-removable like in the Galaxy S6, it will have a bigger capacity at 3000mAh. Its Edge counterpart, on the other hand, will pack a 3,600mAh battery.
As for its internals, the upcoming flagship smartphone will reportedly be powered by Samsung's Exynos 8 Octa 8890 processor. But, other reports indicated that for other regions, the device might come with the Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm. Despite the different chipsets, both models will still feature 4GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal memory.
But, aside from these upgraded specs, probably the most interesting leak regarding the Galaxy S7 device is its possible waterproof capabilities, as reported by BGR. According to the site, details about this feature emerged on Zauba, the import site for India.
Based on the site's database, parts for a mobile device, which came from South Korea, arrived in India earlier this month. As noted in their descriptions, these components will be used for waterproofing handsets.
The last Samsung device to come with this feature was the Galaxy S5. It was then removed for the Galaxy S6 for reasons unknown. But, if the waterproofing features do return for the Galaxy S7, then it would certainly please users as it will offer better protection for their devices.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress, which is set to take place in Barcelona on Feb. 21.
