Microsoft has just updated its Games for Gold free games list for October 2014 on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. In the sections below, we will look at what will be available in the coming weeks.

Keep in mind, this offer is only for Xbox One and Xbox 360 console owners who have subscribed to the Games for Gold service, which offers discounts on games sold at the Microsoft Sotre. Also, subscribers will get to download games for free every month.

Interested buyers can purchase a 12-month Games for Gold subscription for a discounted price on Amazon. Similiar discounts have been offered for 3-month subscriptions as well.

Xbox One

Starting Oct. 1 thru 31, Xbox One owners will get to play indie-game Chariot for free. Developed by Frima Studios, Chariot primarily designed for co-op multiplayer. It is possible to finish the game without a companion. However, single-players will only have access to about 80 percent of the content.

Chariot follows the traditional side-scrolling layout. Even so, the presentation is visually stunning with colorful graphics. The plot follows the adventures of a princess who drags a cart containing her father's corpse to the final resting place. Along the way, she must collect jewelry to appease the king's spirit - who wants to be buried with treasure. Fortunately, the princess is aided by a faithful companion, who is controlled by the second player.

Xbox 360

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available to Xbox 360 subscribers from Oct. 1 thru 15. In this sequel to Battlefield-spinoff Bad Company, players reprise the role of Private Preston Marlowe - who is member of the fictional misfit U.S. Army unit "Bad Company". Regarded as expendable, the group is tasked with recovering a dangerous weapon before its falls into the wrong hands. The critically-acclaimed classic features destructible buildings in environments that include snow, jungle, and desert.

From Oct. 16 thru 31, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Darksiders II. This action RPG features a hack-and-slash style of gameplay. Players take on the role of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Taking place after events in the first game, Death embarks on a quest to clear his brother's name and restore humanity.
